Licensing
Kura is dual-licensed.
Open source: AGPL-3.0
The engine and everything in the repository are licensed under the GNU AGPL v3. You can use, modify and self-host it freely; if you offer it to others as a network service or distribute modified versions, the AGPL requires you to share your source under the same terms.
Commercial license
If you want to use Kura inside a proprietary or closed-source product, as the backend of a service without AGPL obligations, or for OEM redistribution, a commercial license is available. Contact us at contact@bentopdf.com.
Third-party components
Bundled components keep their own licenses, every one compatible with the AGPL and permitting commercial redistribution: qpdf (Apache-2.0), FreeType (FTL), OpenJPEG (BSD-2-Clause), libjpeg-turbo (IJG), zlib, Little CMS (MIT), libpng, PDFium (BSD-3-Clause), OpenSSL (Apache-2.0), the Liberation fonts and DM Sans (SIL OFL 1.1), DejaVu Sans and the Adobe Glyph List. The full list with how each is used is in NOTICE.md.
Contributing
Contributors sign a CLA, which the bot prompts for automatically on the first pull request; that is what makes the dual licensing possible. See CONTRIBUTING.md for the workflow, and please include the PDF that reproduces any bug you fix.
